Custom Cabinetry
At Langmaid Cabinets, we are more than just cabinetry makers. We're a small, family-run business committed to providing you with the custom cabinetry of your dreams. Our secret to affordability lies in our simplicity. Every piece we craft is unique, tailor-made to your preferences, and designed to suit your exact needs.
Our primary clientele includes homeowners looking to elevate their living spaces. Whether it's a kitchen remodel, a bathroom upgrade, or a stunning built-in bookshelf, we're here to bring your vision to life. We also work closely with contractors and designers, providing them with the high-quality, custom pieces they need to make their projects stand out.
Our range of services covers a spectrum of cabinetry needs. From elegant kitchen cabinets to functional bathroom vanities, stylish entertainment units to versatile built-in bookshelves, comfortable benches to efficient entryway storage, and meticulously designed closets – we have you covered. No two projects are the same, and that's exactly how we like it.
When I kick off a new project, it all begins with a visit to the client's home. I want to get a sense of their space and their unique style. Armed with this valuable information, I set out to design something that perfectly suits their needs. I rely on CAD-based software to create a 3D representation of the final product. This virtual prototype allows my clients to see precisely what their custom cabinetry will look like in their space. But the real magic happens when we work together, making revisions and tweaks as needed to ensure they get exactly what they want.
Take, for example, my most recent project. The client had a spare bedroom and a creative vision: she wanted an office space that could transform into a guest room for out-of-town visitors. Collaborating closely with my sister, @kerikuzmainteriors, we designed a stunning solution—an integrated Murphy bed concealed within a wall of cabinets. This functional masterpiece featured a mix of drawers and open shelves.
The project was nothing short of challenging. The goal was to make the bed fit inside the cabinet in a way that didn't scream "bed" when not in use. It required an incredible amount of attention to detail and plenty of time to ensure that everything lined up perfectly.
For me, the beauty of using CAD-based software is that it helps me eliminate errors in the building process. If everything is built to the specifications drawn up on the computer, and I've done my site measurements accurately, everything fits exactly as intended. But for my clients, it can be challenging to visualize a custom unit in their space without seeing it. I do my best to explain concepts, but sometimes, nothing beats seeing it with your own eyes.
Client input is at the heart of my designs. From the first meeting to the last, the client holds the reins, making changes as they see fit. This is a fluid process, and sometimes, as we work on a design, new ideas emerge, or we find inspiration within the design itself. It's this collaboration that makes the process exciting, just as it should be.
If you're considering a custom cabinetry project, it's important to start by understanding what you want from your space. Do you need cabinets for storage, or is it all about the style and ambiance they bring to the room? Priorities differ from person to person. It's also helpful to have a rough idea of the style, look, or materials you envision. While these can change, they offer a solid starting point for our collaboration.
Our upcoming project is as unique as they come. The client has a closet in their living room that's being transformed into a hidden bar concealed behind bi-folding doors. It's a sleek, modern unit, with the entire bar featuring a striking black woodgrain finish. To add a touch of warmth, we've incorporated a wine bottle and liquor storage shelf in warm oak. And for the ultimate in-home bar experience, we've included a built-in keg fridge and beverage fridge.
This project was very much driven by the client's vision. They knew, for the most part, exactly what they wanted, making the concept fairly straightforward to develop. We worked closely to refine the design and bring it to life.
During the planning phase, the client initially wanted bifold pocket doors that slid back and hid within the cabinet when opened. It was a fantastic idea, but the hardware required for doors of that size would have significantly increased costs. Since keeping the project within the client's budget was a priority, we opted for a bifold system that wasn't a pocket door, which greatly reduced expenses. While this choice didn't achieve everything the more expensive hardware would, it still accomplished the primary goal of the project—hiding the entire bar when not in use.
A large bi-folding door like the one in this project demands precision in alignment. Everything must be spot on for the doors to operate smoothly. This is where the installation process comes in. I consider this the make-or-break phase. Many times, you have one chance to make a cut that's exactly right. A quick and cheap install can undermine even the most well-built cabinets. That's why I invest so much time and effort into my installations.

When it comes to staying on the cutting edge of cabinetry design, it's crucial to keep an eye on the latest trends. Let's take a look at some of the top cabinetry trends that are gaining momentum in the world of interior design:
Modern Minimalism: The trend toward clean lines, sleek hardware, and minimalistic design is still going strong. Modern cabinetry is all about simplicity and functionality, making it an excellent choice for homeowners seeking a clutter-free, contemporary look.
Mixed Materials: The fusion of different materials is making a big impact. Combining wood, metal, glass, and even concrete in cabinet designs can add depth and character to kitchen and bathroom spaces.
Open Shelving: Open shelving is gaining popularity as a way to showcase dishes, glassware, or decorative items. It brings a sense of openness and can be an ideal choice for those who enjoy an airy, uncluttered kitchen.
Two-Tone Cabinetry: Mixing two different colors or finishes in cabinetry adds a unique visual appeal. For instance, combining dark lower cabinets with light upper cabinets can create a striking contrast.
Smart Cabinetry: With technology infiltrating every aspect of our lives, it's no surprise that smart cabinetry is emerging as a trend. Think soft-close drawers, built-in charging stations, and even voice-activated cabinet doors.
Open and Floating Vanities: In the realm of bathroom cabinetry, open and floating vanities are gaining ground. They create a sense of space and can be a great choice for smaller bathrooms.
Textured Finishes: Textured cabinet finishes, such as embossed or wire-brushed wood, are adding depth and tactile appeal to designs. They can make a statement and create a unique visual experience.
Staying informed about trends can help you make design choices that are both stylish and functional. Whether you're planning a kitchen renovation or a bathroom upgrade, these trends offer exciting opportunities for you to create spaces that are not only practical but also aesthetically captivating.
